    Ooh… That was Good!

In a rare show of unity the entire Zombies Can’t Swim team have been involved with Falmouth Week in Cornwall, UK during the past week or so. Falmouth Week is a major attraction for locals and visitors alike. With its origins as a local sailing regatta dating back at least as far as 1837, the week has evolved into not only a major sailing competition in the South West of England, but also an opportunity for sailors and landlubbers to enjoy the many daytime and evening events in the town. There is so much to see and do throughout the week from family friendly activities on The Moor, various sailing races on the water and exciting evening entertainment at Events Square.

Broadly speaking, the whole event can be thought of in two halves: the sailing week and the shoreside events.

    Sailing Week

Sailing Week features up to seven days of fleet racing for yachts and dayboats in the expansive
waters of Falmouth Bay and the Carrick Roads (lower Fal estuary). The week commences with a
race briefing on the first Saturday, followed by racing each day from Sunday to the following Saturday, with daily and series prizes, and is complemented by comprehensive shoreside events for
everyone.

    Shoreside Events

Falmouth Week’s shoreside activities have developed a lot over the years, and thanks to their amazing sponsors and partners there are now a full schedule of daytime and evening entertainment throughout the town including internationally renowned and high profile music and comedy performances and acts.

I feel old..! I used to swim alongside the bigger boats as they raced around their course but now I am wiped out if I do a few circuits with them… However, the smaller inshore boats are a joy to behold and fun to play amongst.

For me the highlight of the week was attending The Bohemians gig. It was truly fantastic and I was amazed at the faithful representation of the original band’s music. How does their front man look so like Freddie Mercury. It’s spooky..!

The week has many magical ingredients, but I was bowled over with how inclusive the entire event was. Whether participants were local or from further afield, old or young, in matching Mustos or in superglued flip flops, the spread and diversity of the people involved was immense.

Falmouth Week is always a joy to be part of in whatever capacity one is able. This year I was not involved with the sailing but very much enjoyed a number of the shoreside events. As one of the best regional regattas and festivals with amazing coastal waters, it reinforces why Grosvenor Yachts has an office in both London and Falmouth.

Thank you to the Falmouth Week 2019 organisers, their sponsors and partners. We also thank you for several of the images used in this post.
