A monthly roundup of all the news that’s new and approved from our regular team of contributors. Well, at least some mutterings that seem meaningful to them in their own strange and peculiar way..!
I have been looking at a fantastic website recently, thegreenblue.org.uk. They have all sorts of handy tips for protecting the environment (i.e. me) whilst enjoying boating and watersports. Wildlife and their habitats in and around our marine and inland waters are under constant pressure from factors such as climate change, development and sometimes disturbance from human activity. We all want to enjoy interacting with nature so hopefully their advice can really help.
I really wanted to join the renowned fund raiser Betty Stoggs for her charity cycle ride raising money for the children’s hospice (she’s on Facebook!). Sadly I just can’t get my flippers to operate the brakes. Good luck Betty and all of your fellow cyclists!
I don’t want to steal Charles’ thunder, but the Aquila boats that are coming on-stream offer an amazing quality of space and the deck area is sublime for inviting all of your mates to an al-fresco BBQ… I can imagine watching the sun go down already.
Having been at boat shows nearly continuously for a month it is good to be back home. Whilst they are great fun to be a part of, they are also extremely tiring! Now home, the old flipper has rocked up for a catch up.
Finally, I have returned home after many boat shows. I love seeing all the new boats and latest technologies, but it is also so good to return having been on the road for a while. Cornwall is looking as beautiful as ever. Even as autumn approaches the beaches and coastal paths are still gorgeous.
There still does not seem to be a great deal of diversity in powerboating and I think this is a great pity. There may be all sorts of reasons why people are reluctant to have a go, but once they do it is a truly exciting and confidence-building experience. Powerboats need not be daunting; with good training and support, more people who would otherwise be tempted to sit back and watch would be willing to take control of a boat and enjoy learning a new skill.
We are delighted that Grosvenor Yachts is bringing the renowned manufacturer of catamaran boats Aquila to the UK market with their great range of multihull boats. This represents a fantastic new way for people to enjoy cruising and their favourite pastime.
A friend describes the Brexit process as ‘interminably tedious’: There is no doubt that it simply goes on and on. My hope is that certainty will be achieved soon and those of us responsible for businesses across the country can resume our planning for the future.
Have a great month..!
